"The New Year's Sacrifice" (祝福) is a short story by Lu Xun, was originally published in Oriental Magazine, Volume 21, Number 6 (March 25, 1924), and was later compiled in Lu Xun’s second collection of short stories, Wandering.It is a story of a woman who is exposed to a tragic life that eventually forces her to the external scopes of societal moral standards. The story is a way for motivating social changes. It has distinctive consideration to women's dilemma by taking into account women's liberty concepts.
