Flavius Vopiscus Syracusanus unus est e sex scriptoribus ficticiis quibus Historia Augusta tributa est. Ad initium vitae Aureliani "Vopiscus" dicit se scribere annis 305 et 306, post abdicationem Diocletiani sed Constantio I nondum mortuo, avumque suum meminisse rebus gestis a Diocletiano iuvene; sed alibi dicit se cognoscere opus Aelii Lampridii, qui se post anno 324 scribere fingit, et Iulii Capitolini. Re vera Historia Augusta scripta est, fortasse ab uno auctore, inter annos 370 et 400, ut monuit Hermannus Dessau anno 1889.
