The Four-Story Mistake is a children's novel written and illustrated by Elizabeth Enright, published by Farrar & Rinehart in 1942. It is the second book in the Melendy family series which Enright inaugurated in 1941. The family leaves World War II-era New York City for a house in the country, a house that is an adventure in itself. In 2012 The Four-Story Mistake was ranked number 80 among all-time best children's novels in a survey published by School Library Journal – the third of three books by Enright in the top 100.
