Westmorland (, formerly also spelt Westmoreland) was a county in North West England which occupied the southern Lake District and the southern Vale of Eden. It had an administrative function from the 12th century until 1974, when it became part of Cumbria. The people of Westmorland were known as Westmerians.In April 2023, the non-metropolitan county of Cumbria was abolished and replaced with two unitary authority areas, one of which, Westmorland and Furness, covers all of the former area of Westmorland.
